Items You Should Never Toss In A Roll-Off Dumpster

Albert Mendoza

Roll-off dumpster rentals always come in handy when working on renovation and spring cleaning projects. However, you must know all the restrictions of using a roll-off dumpster. For instance, most companies have a strict policy on what you shouldn't throw in their dumpster bins. That said, it's good to know some prohibited items to avoid attracting fines. So, read on to find out.

Batteries

You may have accumulated different types of batteries in your home. And since most of them no longer work, you might want to discard them because they might be cluttering your home. Unfortunately, alkaline batteries are considered hazardous by roll-off dumpster rental companies. Remember, these batteries contain lead, sulfuric acid, and other toxic substances.

And since there is a possibility of these toxic materials finding their way into the food chain, you should take the batteries to a recycling facility instead of tossing them into your roll-off dumpster.

Electronics

Most homes have accumulated plenty of electronics. That's why you find old TVs, radios, laptops, and other electronics in the basement or garage. All in all, you should never think of tossing your old electronics into the roll-off dumpster rental. Most electronic products contain toxic metals that might leach into the groundwater. Besides, some of these electronics have flame-retardant chemicals. That explains why most landfills and dumpsters don't accept consumer electronics.

Asbestos

By now, you might know that asbestos is carcinogenic. That's why experts have been advising people to do away with asbestos roofing. If you wish to get rid of your asbestos roof, don't think of tossing the debris in the roll-off dumpster. Carcinogenic materials should never find their way into the roll-off dumpster, waste bin, or garbage cans.

You can also find asbestos in insulation, electrical fixtures, shingles, and siding materials. But if you suspect the presence of asbestos, get an expert to help with its removal.

Chemical Cleaners

Harsh chemical cleaners used in most households aren't allowed in roll-off dumpsters. The chemicals in these cleaners might adversely affect the groundwater and the surrounding environment. So, don't dump your bleach and other chemical cleaners in the roll-off dumpster rental if you care about wildlife and plants.

Car Tires

You might also be tempted to throw your worn-out tires in the roll-off dumpster bin, but it's against the rules. Luckily, tires can be recycled in various facilities. So, before you think of tossing them into the roll-off dumpster rental, take them to your local tire shop for recycling. These pros will gladly take them off of you.

How to Get Rid of Weird Trash

These days, there are so many new inventions and weird components to machines and appliances. It's hard to know what's safe to keep, recycle, or throw away when something is all used up. For example, I didn't know until a few months ago what to do with old ink cartridges, used computers, or antique printers. I finally called my local recycling center and asked for a list of things that can be recycled. They even told me about this weeklong event they hold every year where they set up recycling pickup stations for large items so you don't have to drive all the way to the center.
