Hosting A Large Event? Here Are Some Tips For Renting Roll-Off Dumpsters

When planning large events, one of the things many people forget is the need for the disposal of the trash generated at the event. For example, if your company or community organization is hosting a large event for the public where food will be served, then there needs to be somewhere for all of the plates and cups to be disposed of out of the way of your guests. Typically, hosting a large event means you need to rent at least a couple of commercial roll-off dumpsters to hold the trash the event generates.  

If you are planning a large corporate event or community party, then these tips will assist you with the task of dumpster rental:

Tip: Determine the Size of Dumpster Required and Rent On That's Larger

As with their budgets, many event planners often underestimate the volume of trash that will be produced at the events they plan. For example, you may have thought about all of the plates and cups from the dinner service, but you may not have considered all of the containers used to hold and prepare the food. This trash can easily equal the same volume as the garbage generated by the visitors attending your event. For this reason, you really do need to rent one that's larger than you think you might need. It's always better to have too much space in the dumpster rather than not enough.

Tip: Request Dumpsters with Locking Lids if They Will be in an Area Accessible to the Public

While it may seem crazy, your company or organization can be sued if someone is injured in or around your rented trash dumpsters. For this reason, you should always rent dumpsters with locking lids. This allows you to lock down the dumpsters when not in use and will greatly reduce your liability because no one will be able to dumpster dive or dump their personal trash when no one is around to prevent them from doing so.

Tip: Ensure You Have an Appropriate Out-of-the-Way Location for the Dumpsters

As the event host, it's your responsibility to find an out-of-the-way location to place the dumpsters and other equipment best left out of the view of your attendees. However, trash dumpsters need to have an easily accessible appropriate surface where you can have them dropped off.  Since the containers are heavy, they need to be placed on asphalt, concrete, or plywood. They can't typically be placed on dirt, gravel, or sandy areas. As the rentee, it's your responsibility to ensure there is a safe and appropriate place for the dumpsters to be before, during, and after your event.
